community guidelines & acceptable use

these guidelines explain what is and isn't allowed on blob. our goal is to create a digital "third space" where students can connect safely, authentically, and without fear of harassment. these rules apply to everyone and everything on the platform.

these rules apply across all areas of blob, including but not limited to:

• user profiles and bios
• feed posts, comments, and reactions
• campus stories and announcements
• marketplace listings
• event pages and ticketing
• direct messages

1. be respectful and safe

we do not tolerate behavior that makes others feel unsafe or unwelcome. this includes:

• harassment and bullying: targeting individuals with repeated unwanted contact, insults, or coordinated attacks.
• hate speech: attacking people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.
• privacy violations: sharing someone else's personal information (doxxing), private photos, or messages without their explicit consent.

2. keep it legal

blob operates under uk law. there is absolute zero tolerance for illegal content. immediate account termination and reporting to law enforcement will occur for:

• child sexual abuse material (csam) or exploitation.
• terrorism, violent extremism, or threats of mass violence.
• facilitating illegal activities, including the sale of illegal goods or services.

3. sexual, violent and self-harm content

to maintain a safe environment for all students:

• no pornography: explicit sexual imagery or videos are strictly prohibited.
• no graphic violence: gratuitous gore, animal cruelty, or celebration of violence is not allowed.
• no self-harm promotion: we do not allow content that encourages, glorifies, or provides instructions on self-injury or suicide.

4. be authentic

blob relies on trust within the student community. you must not:

• impersonate other students, faculty, or public figures.
• create fake accounts or use automated bots to manipulate engagement.
• misrepresent your university affiliation.

5. marketplace rules

when buying or selling within the campus marketplace:

• describe items honestly and accurately.
• prohibited items: weapons, illegal drugs, prescription medication, alcohol, tobacco products, and stolen goods are strictly banned.

6. events, bookings and campus facilities

when organizing or promoting events on blob:

• ensure plans are real and you have the necessary authorization to use campus facilities.
• do not create fake events to mislead students or collect data.

7. discounts and partner offers

student deals are a privilege. do not abuse discount codes, distribute them maliciously, or attempt to sell free promotional items.

8. petitions

petitions are a tool for civic engagement. they must be used for genuine student issues and must not be used to harass specific individuals or spread misinformation.

9. reporting

if you see something that violates these guidelines, report it. it's the best way to keep the community safe.

10. what happens after a report?

we review reports carefully. actions we take are proportional to the severity of the violation and may include:

• content removal or restricted visibility.
• temporary suspension of account features (e.g., posting or messaging).
• permanent account ban.

11. appeals

we make mistakes sometimes. if you believe action was taken against your account in error, you will receive instructions via email on how to submit an appeal. appeals are reviewed by human moderators.

12. online safety act

blob is committed to compliance with the uk online safety act 2023. these guidelines, our moderation processes, and our safety features are designed to fulfill our duties under the act to protect users, particularly from illegal content and harm.
